The building code of the United States and Canada requires the full circuit interrupter electrical sockets to prevent electric shocks which may be caused by the electrical appliances installed in the bathroom like the lights, heaters and heated towel rails.  This requirement should be part and parcel of the bathroom design.

Minimal clutter found in the bathroom should be observed in the bathroom design.  A pedestal sink can save space and make the room look larger rather than cramped the space with the large vanity or countertop.  Mirrors, too, can make the bathroom look bigger as they capture and reflect light inside the bathroom.  To make the bathroom appear bigger, soft colors of tiles and light-colored floor mat or carpet should be selected.

Whether a house has a small bathroom or an elegant one, the bathroom design should serve as relief room with sanitation as its first and foremost consideration.

A full bath has a complete set of bathtub, shower, toilet and sink and the corresponding plumbing accessories like the cold and hot shower provision.  Toilet, sink and shower make a bathroom a 3/4 bath.  The powder room which is sometimes used by guests during parties is a half bath where toilet and sink are installed. When discussing with one’s residential design specialist or when a house is being advertised for sale, the number of bathrooms are described as 3.1 for three baths and one half bath or 4.3 which means four full baths and 3 half baths.
