Michael Hyden possesses each of them which is why we came back to him for the design of our second home. Our first home was inspired by an existing plan; we changed things around and made it just right for us; it’s beautiful, I must say! For this second round, we decided to work from a blank piece of paper. Michael passed the creativity test with flying colors!! I showed him a picture of a kitchen I loved and instantly, he was totally in sync with how I wanted this house to feel from exterior to interior…from the webbed trusses in the kitchen to the flawless flow from room to room. During the daunting task of putting our ideas on paper, Will and I would sometimes be mid- sentence with a plan of how we’d like to see the living room and kitchen arranged for example, and Michael would already have a sketch going… “WOW you took the words right out of our mouths! What a perfect idea!” He would draw, rotate, add, erase…sometimes crumble up and start anew…until it was just right! It’s awesome what this man can come up with. Throughout each meeting, the three of us would collaborate, and with a ton of patience, Michael was open to every suggestion, every random request. The cool thing about him is that he saw each new idea of ours as a challenge and opportunity for him to create. When we thought there was a road block he’d sit for a minute, think. I remember the first time he said it….“There IS something we could do…” When we thought there was no way to make an idea work, Michael’s inventiveness would give us the perfect solution…sometimes two or three! That is what every client wants to hear from his or her Residential Design Specialist when designing a new home! This house is as personal to him as it is to us and it has so many perfect, unique touches. His suggestion was to “live” in the house before meeting again; make sure you’re completely happy with how you will walk to and from each room; envision your routines and how they will transpire in this new space.
